MALAYSIA IN TRANSITION

July 31, 2020

The unexpected GE14 Victory has created a whole new host of issues and challenges to the Nation.
A late coalition with Pakatan Rakyat and PPBM to form Pakatan Harapan, did not give much time and space to develop a common ideology, especially with PPBM who had only one major objective – kick the kleptocratic Najib out!
Although the REFORMASI movement finally gained Federal power, unprepared as it was, led to the disarray in PH today. Sloganising ‘reformasi’ is easy, actually developing and implementing reformation requires more than just political rhetorics.
The very process of governing needed for A NEW MALAYSIA needed to be ‘created’. The past BN government did not practice basic governing processes and procedures, as it was all about ‘who you know’ and not ‘what you know’.
As a Political Secretary for Subang Parliament in 2008/9, I created the AFP BRIDGE MODEL, which identified the ALL STAKEHOLDERS APPROACH and AFP COLLABORATIVE NETWORKING CULTUREĀ  to managed the governing processes and procedures based on the ISSUES and CONCERNS of the CONSTITUENTS.
It took about three months just to identify who are the stakeholders, roles and functions of all stakeholders, including the MP’s Secretariat Office.
Having a clear outline of the workings of the Constituency is critical. Identifying the roles and functions of the Wakil Rakyat’s Secretariat will improve efficiency and performance.
A directory of all the stakeholders helps speedy coordination, especially when town-hall meetings need to be held. Going to the ground to meet the various stakeholders takes time, effort and relationship skills, of which training and equipping the Wakil Rakyat Office is very necessary. Building relationships between elections is the most crucial activity, yet very much neglected. So much focus on the events and activities outcomes without a corresponding monitoring on relationships building is common practice for many. To address these issues, AFP RESOURCES have been sharing and helping build capacity for the different stakeholders, especially with NGOs and CSOs, who comprise of the largest groups of Concerned Malaysians. We assist in helping the participants know, understand and apply the AFP BRIDGE MODEL.
